Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the frequently asked questions by our clients.

Who will take our photographs on the wedding day?

We (that is Alison and Stephen) work together on every wedding. During the wedding preparations we can be with both the bride and the groom in different locations. If it's logistically possible then we will be there! From golf courses to hairdressers we can be with you in the run-up to your wedding ceremony. We can also be with you until the end of the best-man's speech, your first dance as a married couple, or even till the fireworks at the end of the night! All the work you see on this website is our work.

What is different about Purvis-Gisborne Photography?

We are wedding and portrait specialists and we take a friendly and hands-off approach to your wedding day. We are passionate about photojournalistic wedding photography and as such we do not choreograph or interrupt events, we simply document the natural and spontaneous moments as they happen. Our style of photography is vibrant and natural, reflecting the atmosphere and story of your day without gimmicks or overcooked digital effects. Our unobtrusive documentary approach allows us to work quickly, adpating to diferent locations and situations. We're also used to taking portraits so we can work quickly to get the posed photographs done and get you back to your celebrations.

We love your unobtrusive reportage style of wedding photography but our parents want a few formal group shots of the family, can you help?

We are more than happy to take a selection of formal wedding photographs, but as we specialise in our own unobtrusive documentary reportage photography style, these formal shots are kept to a minimum to allow you to enjoy your day with your guests. We can recommend suitable groupings to ensure that your important family members are included and usually complete these shots within 10 minutes. We also realise that you may also want some time for portraits of just the two of you. We enjoy this time alone with you and again we work quickly to avoid you missing the celebrations of your day!

Our wedding isn't in Derbyshire, do you travel?

We are happy to travel anywhere in the UK and our travel costs are included in our all inclusive pricing. You are not asked to pay any extra regardless of where you are in the UK mainland. Travel expenses outside of the UK mainland are charged at cost. The majority of our weddings are in the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and North Yorkshire, but we regularly travel into London and across the UK including venues such as Rowton Castle in Shropshire and Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire.

How many photographs do you take?

We take enough photographs to cover the events of your wedding day. We do not limit the number of photos as we prefer to concentrate on documenting the memorable moments of your wedding day. Typically on an 8-hour coverage you would expect to see something like 300 photographs.

Can we give you a list of photographs to work from?

We do not work from a list other than a short list of 4-6 formals that you request. We find a list stifles our creativity, although of course we do want to know about anything unique to your wedding that you particularly want photographing. We will talk through the details in the days leading up to your wedding, and make sure that we know the order of the day. We are documentary specialists and are experienced in thinking on our feet!

How many photographs will we get to see?

The first time you will see all the photographs of your wedding will be from your personalised DVD. Only a small number of blinks, duplicates and missed expressions are removed. After you have seen the images they will also be uploaded to a private area on our website. Family and friends are also welcome to view your wedding photos. The online wedding galleries will be available for 6 weeks after you return from honeymoon.

How do our family and friends order wedding photographs?

Family and friends are free to order their own photograph reprints independently of you - there is no need for you to collect orders together from your guests. We are happy to handle all photograph orders individually and orders can be placed as soon as the gallery is opened online. We usually deliver our prints to you within 2 weeks of your order and payment, but in case of delays at the lab we ask you to allow up to 28 days for delivery. Family and friends can also speak to us directly about ordering their own wedding albums or DVD slideshows.

Do you visit the venue before the wedding day?

We do not normally visit venues prior to a wedding day. Due to our reportage / photojournalistic style it is not as vital for us to know the venue, as it might be for a more traditional wedding photographer. We always talk through the detail of your day in a pre-wedding meeting or over the telephone. There is always time in the morning before the wedding day begins to allow us to become sufficiently familiarised with a venue.

How long is it between our order for our wedding album and when we receive it?

Following your wedding we will personally design you a bespoke and custom wedding album. This album design will be presented on your DVD. You can choose to make alterations to the selection of images if you wish and once you approve your final album we would normally deliver your album between six weeks later. Delivery time can increase for albums ordered in November and December because of the impact of the Christmas ordering rush and Christmas holiday period, so if your wedding is later in the year, get your album ordered ASAP!

We've decided that we would like to book your services, what happens next?

Once you have decided to book our wedding photography services fill in the booking form and return it to us as quick as you can. There is high demand for our photography and dates get booked quickly. We also limit the number of dates available each year for weddings and civil partnerships and we are always ovesubscribed. We can take booking fees by cheque, card or direct bank transfer, just let us know the most convenient way for you.
